40 years later, the airbag is democratized

Today, almost all cars made in developed countries have airbags (80%), minimum of two (driver and passenger). However, we can also find up to 10 airbags, things have changed a lot since the first systems dating from the 70's.

Although considered as the first car with airbags was Mercedes-Benz S Class of 1981 (W126), the fact is that first introduced the 70 United States. But the difference is that the Mercedes was not a charge for the belt, but an integrated restraint system, hence the initials SRS .

In emerging countries such as BRIC , deployment of the airbag is still much lower. An example that in Latin NCAP tested cars with and without airbag, because every other car does not. Since 1980 Bosch says it has made 111.1 million airbag control modules. The lives that have been saved by these blessed circuits .

Still would have saved more than complemented airbag seat belt, because without it, the effectiveness of the system collapses or can even kill. So I never have replaced the belt, and will not.
